Tofuku-ji Rinzai Zen Garden: Kyoto is full of Zen temples, but visiting this one was our first choice. The Rinzai sect is my personal favourite with it emphasis on koans and gardens, like this one. Peace and gentile contemplation flows from the quiet here. The sand and rocks raise the question of what they represent and many people see islands in the sea it mountains in the clouds. The true answer is not so easy; there is no “I”, no self, to see either. All is inperminance.
